About Judge Purdy
Elect Judge Monica Purdy as Justice of the 5th District Court of Appeals, Place – 6. She is a presiding judge known for her exceptional judicial temperament, integrity, thorough knowledge of the law, and an unwavering commitment to ensuring justice is served for ALL citizens and in EVERY case that comes before the court.
Judge Purdy began her legal career as an associate at a national law firm, where she was later elected as a partner. In that role, she represented governmental entities in the collection of receivables throughout Texas and the United States. In 2004, to accommodate her growing family, she opened her own private law practice in Dallas. There she primarily served as regional counsel for Fortune 500 clients involved in litigation and collection disputes in both state and federal courts.
In 2010, Judge Purdy was appointed Associate Judge for the City of Dallas Municipal Courts. In this role, she presided over bench and jury trials, conducted jail magistrations, and managed pre-trial and show cause hearings. Additionally, she oversaw dangerous dogs and housing and premises violations, as well as juvenile magistrate warnings. She also issued emergency protective orders in cases of family violence and reviewed or issued search, inspection, seizure, and arrest warrants.
Judge Purdy, a native of Tampa, Florida, earned her undergraduate degree from Spelman College, a prestigious liberal arts institution in Atlanta, Georgia. She obtained her law degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, where she was a member of the Law Review. A dedicated advocate for education, Judge Purdy contributed to the development of the Legal Studies Department curriculum for Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Texas, where she also worked as an adjunct professor. Additionally, she has served the community as President of the J.L. Turner Legal Association and as the Regional Director for the National Bar Association. She has conducted countless community voter engagement seminars.
